Job Description
Job Summary:
- Provides direct support to internal customers and indirect support to external customers by managing key aspects of the fermentation process.
- This includes preparing cultures and inoculums, monitoring critical parameters, and ensuring all tasks are performed under sterile conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must follow all Standard Operating Procedures, Job Safety Analyses, and Work Instructions as written.
Performs sampling on production tanks and analytical testing as required to maintain optimum conditions and productivity. - Performs material handling by weighing and dispensing raw materials for lab preparations.
- Detect and identify microbial contamination using microscopic examinations, enrichment capabilities, and testing procedures.
- Effectively communicate contamination findings to Quality Control management.
- Operates and monitors equipment and processes to produce quality production cultures and inoculums.
- Operates and monitors equipment and processes to produce quality data for the control of upstream fermentation vessels.
- The planning, organization, and sharing of the workload, as well as the knowledge that is critical to department operation, with all team members is essential to the success of the company and thus an absolute requirement for all staff members.
- Actively participates in shift changeover.
- Ensure consistent operational coverage, including working overtime or adjusted shifts to accommodate colleagues PTO or sick leave.
- Promote an inclusive, cooperative team environment through professional, diplomatic communication and actions.
- Support company strategic initiatives such as 5S, Safe Start, DICI & Kaizen events.
- Accurately record and report data.
- Maintains Good Documentation Practices as per cGMP.
- Performs tasks and analyses according to standard operating procedures and note any deviations from procedure.
- Maintains lab reagents and consumables inventory.
- Demonstrates ability to use appropriate tools and skills to complete assigned tasks.
- Report any quality deviations or non-conformances when observed.
- Support routine Quality talks/briefings with staff to raise Quality awareness.
- Collaborate with other lab technicians to achieve goals and objectives.
- Displays initiative within the group.
- Must show ability to analyze information.
- Independently communicates technical information to senior personnel.
- Executes other duties as assigned by management.
SHE:
- Knows and follows all safety and Life Saving Rules.
- Displays and promotes positive safety behaviors at all times; uses proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; that all people in the area (personnel, visitors, contractors, etc.) comply with the safety directives.
- Acts in such a way that safety awareness and accident prevention are considered in performing all tasks; responsible for working in a SHE responsible manner and reporting all SHE incidents, shows leadership by working to SHE standards and encouraging employees to work to the same standards.
Education:
- High School education required; higher education in a scientific field preferred (A.S. or B.S. degree).
Top 3 skills:
- Computer Literacy, Exp in a GLP Laboratory Setting/Lab, Attention to Detail, able to work independently.
(PLUS)- microproduct proficiency and micro lab experience.
Physical Requirements:
- MUST be able to lift and carry 50lbs.
