Job Description

Job Summary:

• We are looking for a talented individual to fill a temporary Senior Research Associate contract position in Protein Sciences (Purification), based in our Boston Research Hub in Cambridge, MA, USA.
• As a Senior Research Associate you will contribute to drug discovery efforts for multiple therapeutic areas including neurology, immunology and neuromuscular.
• You will perform laboratory activities with minimal to no supervision and contribute to the delivery of high-quality recombinant proteins for early discovery research and clinical stage programs.
• This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to the Protein Sciences team.
• This is an individual-contributor role suited to a scientist with a foundation in protein biochemistry and hands-on experience with protein purification.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Purifying high quality recombinant cytosolic, Producted, and refold proteins from inclusion bodies and validating these proteins with quality control experiments such as HPLC and mass spectrometry.
• Execute experiments using established protocols and apply independent judgment to ongoing laboratory work.
• Support more complex experiments involving troubleshooting and optimization.
• Assist with general laboratory maintenance and operations.
• Document experimental work and results according to established standards.
• Communicate results to project representatives and discuss findings within the Protein Purification group.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree major in (biochemistry, chemistry, molecular & cellular biology, or biophysics) + 4 years or MS + 2 years’ relevant experience (having industry experience is plus but not required).
• Strong experience using AKTA purification platform and current knowledge of purification methods and protocols.
• Experience in protein refolding from inclusion bodies.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and enthusiasm for learning.
• Foundational understanding of protein biochemistry and knowledge of recombinant proteins and protein-tagging strategies.
• Ability to follow detailed experimental protocols while exercising sound scientific judgment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize laboratory experiments.
• Strong experimental documentation, reporting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of upstream and downstream processes such as molecular biology, cell culture and protein expression, structural biology and biophysics, and/or assay development.
• Familiarity with drug discovery and how protein reagents fit into the process.

Work Environment:

• Apply your scientific expertise to provide innovative approaches for production of high-quality purified proteins across diverse protein classes, including cytosolic and Producted proteins and other non-antibody proteins.
• Use your strong communication skills to collaborate with scientific teams across the organization to advance pre-clinical and clinical drug Clients.
