Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Genomics Facility provides access to advanced genomics technologies to researchers.
  • These technologies include Single-Cell Genomics, Next-Generation Sequencing, Micro-arrays, Sanger Sequencing as well as general nucleic acid sample QC and processing.
  • The facility is part of the Office of Shared Research Facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the Facility’s sample QC equipment, which includes the fragment analyzer, the bio-analyzer, qubit, and the qPCR instruments.
  • Operate the Facility’s sequencing equipment (Illumina NovaSEQ / Element AVITI).
  • Manage additional Core operated platforms, as guided by the Director.
  • Handle administrative processing of new work/projects and the associated client communication emails.
  • Maintain technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyze and maintain data and/or specimens.
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Assist with preparation of reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
  • Install, set up, and perform experiments; interact with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Involve in NGS sample intake, NGS sample QC, NGS sample processing, culminating in Sequencer (Illumina/Element) operation.
  • Provide supplementary assistance to other teams as needed and determined by the Director.

Required Education and Experience:

  • College or university degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Preferred is a minimum of 3-6 months prior experience in a genomics research lab setting.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to communicate internally with co-workers and externally with Facility clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of work ownership.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform lab-based tasks for an extended period of time.
