Job Description
Experience:
- Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through <2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
- Preferred is a minimum of 3-6 months prior experience in a genomics research lab setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to communicate internally with co-workers and externally with Facility clients.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail oriented with strong sense of work ownership.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to perform lab-based tasks for an extended period of time.
- The Genomics Technician is involved in NGS sample intake, NGS sample QC, NGS sample processing, culminating in Sequencer (Illumina/Element) operation.
Responsibilities:
- Operates the Facility’s sample QC equipment, which includes the fragment analyzer, the bio-analyzer, qubit and the qPCR instruments.
- Operates the Facility’s sequencing equipment (Illumina NovaSEQ / Element AVITI).
- Additional Core operated platforms, as guided by the Director.
- Administrative processing of new work / projects and the associated client communication emails.
- Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
- Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews.
- Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
- Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
- The Genomics Facility provides access to advanced genomics technologies to University of Chicago researchers.
- These technologies include Single-Cell Genomics, Next-Generation Sequencing, Micro-arrays, Sanger Sequencing as well as general nucleic acid sample QC and processing.
