Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Technicians are responsible for receiving and processing of fetal bovine blood at the processing facility, from the assigned meat packing plants (“Plant”).

Key Objectives:

  • Make pick-ups from an airport or Plant if blood is not delivered to the facility.
  • Contact the Blood Collector if an encouraged shipment was not received in a timely manner.
  • If the shipment left the Plant as per usual, a follow-up with the FedEx Premier Team will be required to locate the late arriving or lost product.
  • You must request that the cooler be emptied of water and re-iced with WET ice.
  • Open coolers and inspect contents, make sure product is packed with plenty of wet ice and product inside cooler matches the Blood Receipt & Cooler Shipping Manifest.
  • Transfer blood bags from the cooler(s) to the receiving area.
  • Make sure the blood weighed in and recorded on the Receiving Log, matches the Receipt & Cooler Manifest.
  • Contact your immediate Supervisor with any discrepancies.
  • Centrifuge the blood bags, siphon the serum, bottle the raw serum, test daily batch for hemoglobin level, sample the serum, assign lot numbers, and label control function all in accordance with client SOP’s.
  • Fill out all required paperwork related to the job (i.e. Receiving Log, Daily Production Report, Temperature Logs, etc..).
  • It’s your responsibility to ensure all training is promptly completed online.
  • Assist management team in revising procedures as needed.
  • Ensure SOPs are always followed in all our production processes.
  • The Processing Tech. will prepare the month end FBS samples, ships samples to NY, prepares the packing list, prepares the bill of ladings, and ensures bulk material is ready for monthly shipments.
  • Ensure all facility & equipment maintenance is being handled as needed and in a timely manner.
  • Report to management immediately if any equipment is not operating accurately.
  • Stay in regular contact with your supervisor when the Tech II is absent to review daily operations and any other subject that could affect our operation at the lab or our collections plants.
  • Perform clean-up and housekeeping duties at the end of shift (i.e. clean processing equipment, floors, walls, and hard coolers).
  • The Tech. I will take inventory of all collection & processing supplies/equipment located in the warehouse and at the facility and fill out the Inventory Spreadsheet by Thursday at 5:00pm (CST). Must advise a supervisor immediately if a supply or piece of equipment is running low.
  • The Processing Technician I are responsible for filling out the Weekly Production Analysis Report data on the J-Drive when the Processing Technician II is absent.
  • Report any deviations or discrepancies of the companies standard operating procedures or Raw Processing Facility occurrences to the Supervisor and/or Processing Technician II.
  • May be responsible to perform other related duties as needed and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of work experience ( non-specific. just needs to show they can hold a job).
  • Must be flexible with schedule (OT & Weekends).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess a clean driving record.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Pass a drug screening.
  • Ability to lift to 70lbs or 32kg.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Skills, both written and verbal.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in a laboratory environment preferred.
  • Slaughter plant experience preferred.
