Job Summary:
Grossing Tech 2:
- The Grossing Tech 2 is responsible for performing routine laboratory tests to support the diagnosis and treatment of animal health conditions.
- Key responsibilities include grossing and dissection of samples, operating laboratory equipment, and maintaining accurate records.
- This role supports the Global Diagnostics division at client and will work closely with internal veterinary pathologists, and other lab personnel to ensure the highest standards of quality and accuracy in our diagnostic services.
Grossing Tech 3:
- The Grossing Tech 3 is a subject matter expert within the department and is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory tests to support the diagnosis and treatment of animal health conditions.
- Key responsibilities include grossing and dissection of samples, operating laboratory equipment, and maintaining accurate records.
- This role supports the Global Diagnostics division at client and will work closely with internal veterinary pathologists, and other lab personnel to ensure the highest standards of quality and accuracy in our diagnostic services.
Responsibilities [Level 2 and 3]:
- Independently gross and dissect simple, complex level 1, panels, and complex level 2 specimens.
- Label and document specimens accurately.
- Follow established protocols (SOPs) for tissue fixation and handling.
- Maintain detailed records of specimen handling.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- Handle and store all biological specimens in accordance with ZRL Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Properly handle and dispose of medical and biohazardous waste while adhering to all applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Consistently and properly fill out laboratory logs, including but not limited to maintenance logs, environmental logs, and cleaning logs.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace.
Level 3 additional responsibilities:
- Individual performing necropsy cases for further analysis.
- Perform complex dissections of specimens, including rare and challenging cases.
- Take a leadership role in specimen grossing, overseeing multiple case types per day.
- Assist in training lower-level grossing techs and aides.
Education:
- Associates degree or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in a pathology laboratory setting and experience in performing basic grossing operations [3+ years for level 3]
- Experience in the veterinary field strongly preferred, but not required. Other experience considered as applicable.
- High level of understanding of anatomy and grossing protocols.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Platforms (Teams, Outlook, Word etc.)
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software.
- Team-oriented with excellent collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Robust organizational and time management abilities.
- Excellent data entry skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Fluency in English language.
