Job Description
Job Summary:
- The lab assist in R&D operations is a vital position responsible for helping maintain the functionality and cleanliness of the central service areas including research laboratories.
- This role supports the R&D department by ensuring all operational needs are met, facilitating research activities, and adhering to safety and compliance standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Laboratory Support:
- Monthly fire extinguisher checks.
- Weekly eye wash and shower station safety checks.
- Record co2 incubator readings daily and perform check with the analyzer weekly.
- Flush water systems daily and record according to SOP.
- Dispose of broken glass, cardboard recycling, and lab trash daily.
- Collect dirty lab coats and gloves to be sterilized.
- Wash dishes, wrap supplies, sterilize supplies daily.
- Dispose of biohazard sterilization daily.
- Keep hand sanitizer, hand soap and eye glass cleaner dispensers filled and maintain stock.
- Evaluate supplies in supply room, media lab, clean kitchen and dirty kitchen and place orders at
- once per week.
- Assist with receiving shipments that come in daily and record on the ordering system.
- Notify the requestor.
- Put the perishables in appropriate storage temperature if the requestor is not here.
- Receive and put away my own orders pH meters.
- Calibrate once daily.
- Change buffers and calibrate slope in two pH meters once per week.
- Prepare medias as needed.
- Submit work order requests as requested to Lab manager.
- Compliance – my Learning, SOP/RDP review.
- Serve on the RABIES team.
- Complete safety training as required.
- Perform monthly lab cleaning responsibilities for clean kitchen and dirty kitchen.
- Change water systems’ filters annually.
- Aliquot 5N Sodium Hydroxide and 5N Hydrochloric Acid aseptically.
- Take full sharps disposal bins to warehouse and retrieve empty bins from warehouse.
- Attend meetings and trainings.
- Clean pit mount autoclave quarterly.
- Perform all other duties requested.
Lab Coats:
- Stock disposable coats in coat room.
- Retrieve dirty lab coats from clean cell every week and put in laundry bin.
- Take clean blue coats to clean cell when they return from being laundered.
- Ensure lab coats are laundered.
- Make sure there’s a bag in the dirty coat bin.
Safety Glasses:
- Stock safety glasses in coat rooms.
- Order as needed.
- Inspect used glasses and disinfect.
Education, Experience and Skills:
- Degree in Sciences preferred/ High school or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of lab experience preferred.
- GMP/GLP experience.
- Detail Oriented.
- Clean room experience.
- Aseptic experience.
- Software skills: MS office suite, MS teams, Outlook.
Workplace Policies:
- No make-up/jewelry.
Dress:
- The standard dress at the Elkhorn site is business casual.
- There are many areas of the facilities that require employees to change into company issued uniforms or lab protective wear upon arrival.
- Because of this, these areas may be more relaxed in attire.
- They also have many areas where business attire would be more appropriate.
- Regardless, all employees need to be mindful that they are a business and appropriate attire is expected.
- Clothing that is torn, revealing, has any type of derogatory print or pants not worn properly is prohibited.
Footwear:
- Shoes that are a flip-flop style are prohibited.
- Shoes must cover the entire foot.
