Job Description
Job Summary:
- The position of Scientist, Filtration Product Development is a team member responsible for aspects of the design and development of new polymeric membranes for Life Science markets.
- This may include working with a team of membrane scientists to develop new generation of hollow fiber membranes and taking sole responsibility for membrane characterization (water flux, porometry, etc.), as well as performance testing.
Duties and Responsibilitie:
- Study and understand requirements for CTQs of membranes used in bioprocess.
- Execute membrane testing (morphology and performance).
- Plan and execute scaled-down filtration applications.
- Effectively lead research projects within R&D, including proper planning, daily benchwork, control and completion.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all experiments and graph all relevant trend data along with the appropriate controls.
- Maintain all instruments and equipment in excellent condition, keep all work areas neat and clean, and
- follow all safety procedures without exception.
- Perform other functions required for the development, commercialization and/or support of new products, as required.
Education:
- Required: BS or equivalent in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
- Preferred: MS or PhD in related field.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of focus in bioprocess
- At least 2 years of post-degree hands-on experience in R&D laboratory.
- Understanding of filtration applications, especially in Bioprocess.
- Direct experience with cell culture (bench-scale bioreactor operation is a plus).
Previous exposure to characterization of membranes (separation characteristics, pore size, direct and/or tangential flow applications). - Experience with cell culture, small scale bioreactors, filtration, and analytical techniques.
- Ability to analyze data, interpret results, and make informed decisions based on experimental data.
- Able to rapidly refine tech/marketing info through literature reading and form ideas/protocols to present to team
- Excellent working knowledge of current instrumentation, robotics, and automation is desired.
- Strong ability to think outside the box and apply skills creatively to solve problems.
- Outgoing personality with excellent English.
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
MS or PhD in Biochemistry/Biology/Chemistry or related field (preferred).
