Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The EHS Specialist 3 is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing complex EH&S programs across multiple facilities or high-risk operational areas.
  • This role requires a higher level of technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and leadership.
  • EHS Specialist 3 will support the EHS Manager by taking on a lead role in compliance initiatives, audits, training, and continuous improvement efforts, ensuring a proactive approach to workplace safety and environmental sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the administration and continuous improvement of EH&S management systems at assigned facilities, ensuring full compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conducts and leads EH&S Compliance Audits across multiple sites, identifying and mitigating potential hazards, ensuring proactive compliance strategies beyond regulatory minimums.
  • Manages workplace safety incident investigations, including root cause analysis (RCA), corrective/preventative action planning, and workers’ compensation administration to drive injury reduction.
  • Develops and implements new EH&S programs, policies, and procedures, aligning with corporate safety goals and industry best practices.
  • Serves as a EH&S liaison for management, employees, and cross-functional teams, fostering a strong safety culture and engagement at all levels.
  • Oversees hazardous waste management programs, ensuring safe handling, disposal, and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Participates in emergency response planning, including crisis management, business continuity, and site-specific action planning for assigned locations.
  • Designs and delivers advanced EH&S training programs, including hands-on safety trainings and compliance refresher sessions for employees and supervisors.
  • Manages key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting to Corporate EH&S, using data analytics to track performance trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Acts as a mentor for junior EHS specialists and site safety teams, providing guidance on complex EH&S challenges.
  • Acts in the absence of the site EHS manager to ensure continuity of safety efforts at the site.?
  • Supports sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and environmental impact assessments in alignment with corporate ESG goals.
  • The incumbent may be asked to perform additional function-related activities as needed to meet business requirements.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Advanced certifications preferred (e.g., CSP, CIH, or CHMM).

Experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety, preferably in manufacturing, medical device, or regulated industries.
  • Proven experience in leading safety programs, regulatory audits, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Strong background in incident investigations, emergency preparedness, and hazardous materials management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of EH&S regulations (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, state/local regulations) and ability to interpret compliance requirements in a complex operational environment.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to influence, engage, and drive a safety-first culture throughout the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience conducting root cause analysis (RCA) and risk assessments.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and track EH&S programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Excellent business writing and communication skills, with the ability to present safety data and compliance reports to senior leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EH&S software applications for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, excellent communication skills, Regulatory compliance and audits, Hazard identification.
