Job Summary:
- The Associate Scientist is responsible for performing assigned tasks to support the operational scale up of non-GMP Pilot-scale manufacturing processes for company biotherapeutic candidates.
- The Associate Scientist will work routinely in collaboration with other members of Pilot Plant Operations and with Process Development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support of pilot scale operations at up to 500L bioreactor scale of cell culture and corresponding downstream purification process:
- Assisting in general facility and operational support, including maintenance of lab and pilot scale equipment, equipment and parts cleaning, solution making, set up and clean-up activities, and hands on support of upstream and downstream operations as needed during manufacturing runs.
- Documenting results in electronic notebooks and/or paper forms
- Availability during standard working hours is expected as well as occasional after hours, shift work or weekend work as may be necessary.
Education and Experience:
- BS degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related scientific discipline from an accredited university.
- 0-2 years of relevant laboratory or industry experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in following various laboratory and manufacturing operating and safety procedures is required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to perform tasks accurately and reproducibly.
- Understands/acts on priority of assigned tasks under direct supervision to deliver on tasks within reasonably established timelines.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:
- The duties of this role are conducted in a laboratory environment.
- As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to lift/carry up to 30 pounds unassisted/assisted.
- Work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials.
- Gown/de-gown PPE.
- Use a computer.
- Engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging.
- Engage in problem solving, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others.
