Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Supports RTD histology laboratory functions through the performance of routine Histotechniques.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Histotechniques (Tissue Sectioning and Staining):

  • Some experience with foundational histotechniques including embedding, microtomy, cover slipping, processing, and primary staining.
  • Experience operating laboratory or manufacturing equipment.
  • Receives detailed direction for all work and follows standard operating procedures.
  • Monitors and prepares bulk reagents.
  • Assists with preparation work for moderately complex techniques under the direction of senior histology technicians.

2. Quality and Safety:

  • Maintains Right to Operate and ensures all processes are performed safely and in a healthy manner.
  • Identifies, addresses, and escalates potentially unsafe hazards; reports safety hazards, incidents, and near misses in a timely manner using safety reporting tools.
  • Navigates and understands the quality system and escalates issues appropriately.
  • Accurately performs tasks in a regulated environment (OSHA, NMPA, FDA, etc.).
  • Performs and documents all transactions and production instructions accurately related to receipt, quarantine, storage, and disbursement of materials in compliance with FDA, OSHA, QSR, ISO, GMP, and Client policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes minor issues with raw materials, equipment, and laboratory safety and escalates as needed.
  • Maintains 95% or higher internal training compliance.

3. Continuous Improvement:

  • Responsible for 6S activities, maintaining daily records, and assisting with process improvement implementation.
  • Participates and contributes in team and tier meetings.
  • May participate in process improvement initiatives.

Teamwork and Collaboration:

  • Proactively collaborates with peers and cross-functional teams to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Provides suggestions to improve work processes and laboratory equipment, as appropriate.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required, plus 1 year of directly related histology experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with Google products (Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs) preferred.
  • SAP experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and follow operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing and laboratory techniques.
  • Proficient in word processing and email applications.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Prompt, regular, and reliable worksite attendance.

Physical Conditions and PPE Requirements:

  • Required to stand, walk, sit, kneel, bend, and crouch for a combined four (4) or more hours per day.
  • Required to push, pull, and lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Requires repetitive and consistent movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Requires good near visual acuity to perform process-related activities.
  • This is an essential position requiring availability to work weekends, holidays, and during emergency or exceptional conditions in support of organizational goals.
