Job Description
Position Overview:
- The Assistant Scientist, Upstream Bioprocessing, will be an integral part of our bioprocess development team.
- Responsible for supporting the development and optimization of upstream processes to produce biologics, this role will offer an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge bioprocessing technologies and innovative projects within a collaborative and supportive environment.
- This position will report to the Senior principal scientist at Upstream Group and will be based in Devens, MA.
Lab Operations & Experimentation:
- Conduct hands-on laboratory experiments and upstream bioprocess operations including cell culture, bioreactor setup and operation, media preparation, and sampling.
- Assist in the development and optimization of cell culture processes for the production of therapeutic proteins.
- Perform routine cell culture maintenance and monitoring of cell growth, productivity, and cell health.
Data Analysis & Documentation:
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data using appropriate statistical tools and software.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental activities, protocols, and results.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and summaries to communicate findings effectively.
Collaboration & Support:
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Scale-up, downstream processing, and analytical development.
- Provide technical support for technology transfer activities to ensure seamless transition from development to manufacturing.
- Assist in the preparation and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and batch records.
Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency, safety, and innovation.
- Stay current with advancements in upstream bioprocessing technologies and methodologies through literature review and training.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience in upstream bioprocessing, cell culture, or related areas.
- Experience in an industrial setting is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture techniques and bioreactor operation.
- Proficiency in using data analysis software and tools (e.g., Excel, statistical software).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
